Candlemas dates back to the Roman Empire when altar candles were burnt to chase away the bad spirits and protects homes and fields. In Lux this day is known as Liichtmessdag and children go from house to house carrying the paper lanterns which they made themselves begging for lard and peas (as the song which they sing says) but actually wishing well and asking for candies.
In France February 2 is celebrated as the Day of the Crêpe/Pancake Day/la Chandeleur. On this day households all over France make crêpes. This is because it is believed that crêpes symbolize prosperity.
Carnival or Fuesend is celebrated big time in Luxembourg. It’s time to dress up, party and have candy. It starts on Candlemas day goes on until Bretzelsonndeg (Pretzel Sunday), the 4th Sunday of Lent (14 March 2021). During that period, in normal times, a lot of Carnival events and parades takes place – so watch out this space – if there are any events we will publish them….!

An augmented book is not one in which the number of pages has been increased. The authors of these books have just found many different ways of bringing their stories to life! With the help of their readers, the words and characters on the paper break free to enter new worlds, some virtual and some real. In the AB 2.0 exhibition, all that is needed is a well-placed fold, the trace of a coloured pencil, or the slide of a finger on a tablet for the stories to yield endless possibilities. Through interactive installations and workshops, visitors will be able to (re)discover how versatile books can be, as well as some fun and surprising approaches to reading.
