Every year, on Whit Tuesday, thousands of pilgrims and spectators gather to participate in Europe’s largest traditional dancing procession, an event which has been awarded UNESCO World heritage status. Dancers wearing white shirts and dark trousers or skirts and holding handkerchiefs perform hop (the hopping step is sideways and forward) around the city, accompanied by a polka melody.
