Our month-by-month kids’ events calendar for families will help you make the most of every month. It highlights the annual recurrent kids’ events and activities in and around Luxembourg.
This is a Christian festival celebrating the arrival of the Three Wise Men, or Kings, to see the baby Jesus. By tradition on that day in Luyxembourg people eat ‘galette des rois” – a frangipane cake with a charm figuring and a paper crown. Whoever gets the figurine is pronounced King/Queen of the day.
Travel and general tourism trade fair with more than 200 exhibitors from all over the world. Here you can meet tour operators, travel agencies, hotels and much more. Play area and entertainment for kids available as well!

Candlemas dates back to the Roman Empire when altar candles were burnt to chase away the bad spirits and protects homes and fields. In Lux this day is known as Liichtmessdag and children go from house to house carrying the paper lanterns which they made themselves begging for lard and peas (as the song which they sing says) but actually wishing well and asking for candies.
In France February 2 is celebrated as the Day of the Crêpe/Pancake Day/la Chandeleur. On this day households all over France make crêpes. This is because it is believed that crêpes symbolize prosperity.
Carnival or Fuesend is celebrated big time in Luxembourg. It’s time to dress up, party and have candy. It starts on Candlemas day goes on until Bretzelsonndeg (Pretzel Sunday), the 4th Sunday of Lent (27 March 2022). During that period a lot of Carnival events and parades takes place – so watch out this space for all details!

Carnival or Fuesend is celebrated big time in Luxembourg. It’s time to dress up, party and have candy. During that period a lot of Carnival events and parades takes place.
Both instructive and fun, this project invites children to explore the world of electro music through interactive workshops and installations and thus discover the musical world in an educational and entertaining way. The 24H Electro for Kids festival consists of events for schools and para-/extracurricular structures as well as events for families and people with special needs.

Over eleven days, the Luxembourg City Film Festival features a vast panorama of contemporary fiction and documentary films both international and national, events and workshops in the three partner cinema complexes (Ciné Utopia, Utopolis Kirchberg – part of Kinepolis Group and the Cinémathèque de la Ville de Luxembourg) and many of the capital’s cultural institutions. It’s the time of the year when many rubber ducks compete in the annual Duck race! The entertainment (good for kids as well) will start around 12h in the Petrusse Valley (under the Viaduct) and the duck race will begin at 15:00h! Old tales of Ettelbruck tell stories from the gnome families on the hills around Ettelbruck. Out of those tales, the “Wiichtel” festival emerged. On the 14th May 2022, the Ettelbruck City Tourist Office will organise in corporation with the “Nordstadt Turnveräin” (gymnastics club) the annual competition “De Staarke Wiichtel” (The strong gnome). Besides the competition, you can find magical animation in the pedestrian zone and drink and eat at the booths of local associations.

This year, the traditional festival will take place for the 31st time in Munshausen, in the Robbesscheier nature centre. Environmental protection, forestry work and nature education are at the heart of the programme. The Discover Luxembourg (by foot) concept was initiated in 2008 as an annual one-day event. Teams of 4 will have the chance to walk either the 5-6km route (appropriate for families with buggies) or the 8-10km route around the city of Luxembourg and its suburbs. Along the course participants will be able to discover different aspects of Luxembourg as well as undertake various challenges where they can earn points to win prizes.

This weekend Vianden Castle is all about paper. The popular material is the focus of numerous demonstrations. In addition to selling valuable and antique books, a varied program awaits visitors.
