Looking Ahead – Next Week

Winterlights

The City of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg City Tourist Office present “Winterlights”, the festival of lights (made out of 100% energy saving light bulbs) and animation. It features Christmas markets , ice rink, Adventscircus (30 Nov – 16 Dec),  the traditional Saint Nicolas parade, carousels (place d’armes),  street animations, Ferris wheel, exhibitions, shows, book readings and concerts! The markets are located in the following places: Place de Paris, Place d’Armes, Place de la Constitution, Puits Rouge, Place du Theatre. Check out the program on the website.
Where: Luxembourg (see above). On Saturdays and during Sunday store openings in the city the buses and tram are free of charge in the city. Glacis and Rond-Point Schuman car parks are also free on weekends

Family Yoga (6-10 yrs)

Is your daughter or son inspired by your yoga practice and tries to imitate you? Why not share your love of yoga with them in this fun animated themed class. You will be lead on a magical journey to explore different lands around the world, while meeting many animals along the way. Parents and kids will bring these animals to life via animated yoga poses with some occasional partner poses sprinkled in for some added fun! The use of animated poses and basic stretching exercises promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and visualization techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control. This class is best suited for 5-9 year olds but younger children are welcome from 3yrs and older siblings too until 13yrs. This class is taught in English by Lynn Frank.

‘Randonnée Mullerthal’ and open house day in the youth hostel Beaufort

On Sunday, the 14th October will take place the 12th edition of the traditional ‘Randonnée Mullerthal’ for mountain bikers and hikers. Starting point and destination are the youth hostel Beaufort. In order to entertain the families of the sportsmen and women, the youth hostel Beaufort organises an open house day. Thus, the sport event becomes a family event. The children can participate in a mountain bike tour of 7 km or play at the indoor playground or the bowling alley and entertain themselves with the table football, billiard or bouncy castle of the youth hostel Beaufort. The visitors can satisfy their hunger with some delicious pasta. Shower facilities are on site.

The Yuppi-Mini Kulturlaf  (1000m) is a run for children between 5 and 12 years who like to run. Your participation is free and no licence is required. Yuppi will be present at the run and it is also Yuppi who will perform a little warm-up with all the registered children. The primary goal of the Yuppi-Mini-Kulturlaf is to participate and have fun. Your race time will not be measured. Bring your “Yuppi-Leef” booklet and your Yuppi t-shirt if you already have one. If not you will get a Cactus-Yuppi t-shirt at the run! You will also receive a Yuppi medal to reward you for your participation! And there will also be a Yuppi mini-village with activities for kids!

Travel back in time with this Medieval Festival. With nearly 90 vendors and artisans, many musicians and acrobats, fire-eaters and shows this is the largest medieval festival in the Greater Region!

Gasperich Water Tower (Booking required, in Lux, DE  and Fr)

Luxembourg City invites you to the open day at the Ban de Gasperich 68.54m high Water tower! You will be able to see it from inside by climbing its 11 floors. You will also learn all about the water cycle! There will be bouncy castle and entertainment for kids!

Open Days Train 1900

This event is for all lovers of historic trains and it takes place in Fond-de-Gras, the Mecca of industrial and railway heritage in Luxembourg. For its traditional open house, Train 1900 three steam locomotives will travel between Pétange Fond-de-Gras and Rodange. The first train, diesel train, will depart at 11.00h at Pier TRAIN 1900 Pétange.

11 August – Kids Day in the National Mining Museum

Take you kids to this Kids Day and enjoy a  wide variety of activities and shows suitable for the whole family. Kids will have the possibility to win various gifts as well!

12 August – Mill Festival ‘From grain to bread’

The watermill in Enscherange, popularly called “Äischer Millen” or, Rackésmillen ‘, was built in 1824 and is still be used today to mill Luxembourgish flour. The Schueberfouer, funfair of the city of Luxembourg, is the biggest funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. If you or your kids like Playmobil then visit the annual international gathering of Playmobil collectors. The exhibition is on 1000m2 and includes 15 scenes ranging from 2m2 to 50m2 on various themes. Around 120 tables selling Playmobil stuff will be available as well.

Until September  – Bee Trail – Kids Learn Why Bees Are Awesome

Head over with the kids to the 2.5 km bee trail that goes across the city and includes 13 information stops. There you will discover the richness of biodiversity in the city as well as the world of bees (just a few examples of the adventures that awaits you on the tour: a hive on the roof of a building, a hotel for wild bees,  and much more)! Alternatively, teach your kids about the importance of bees and the ecosystem with the BeePopulate game. With this app you can design virtual garden for bees to pollinate!
